New to KUMC

New Member Class

Return to: Calendar

Start: Saturday, August 7, 2010

Location: Asbury #12

Time: 9:00 - 2:00

KUMC new member classes provide an orientation to our theology, our ministries, and our campus.  Our pastors will lead discussions about our theology emphasizing our Wesleyan tradition. Our pastors will also discuss the membership vows and expectations, explaining the commitment required for membership at KUMC. Then, we’ll provide an overview of KUMC’s ministries, sharing the many opportunities available for new members.  Finally, we’ll provide a grand tour of our campus, showing you all of the places and spaces many members may never see. After all of this, you can make your decision about joining KUMC. New members can join by profession of faith, reaffirmation of faith or transfer of membership.

Anyone joining KUMC is required to attend one of our classes unless you've previously been a member. Lunch will be provided for all who attend and for their children.

When joining KUMC, new members take the following vows:

1. To confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and pledge allegiance to his Kingdom.
2. To receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
3. To promise according to the grace given to me to live a Christian life and to always remain a faithful member of Christ’s holy Church.
4. To be loyal to Killearn United Methodist Church and uphold it by my prayers, my presence, my gifts, and my services.

To fulfill these vows new members agree to the following expectations:

Expectation 1:  Attending worship every week unless I am sick or out of town;
Expectation 2:  Pursuing at least one means of growing in my faith in addition to the weekly worship service;
Expectation 3:  Putting my faith into action by becoming actively involved in Christian service;
Expectation 4:  Growing toward the tithe, giving in proportion to my income.

New members attending this class will receive their vows at any of our three worship services on August 8th. To register for our next new member class, please call Peggy Fox in the church office at 893.1116. Our nursery is provided for children of those attending the class by reservation.
